Recycling your Old Wetsuit
Posted: 12 January 2026

Did you know? You can recycle your old wetsuit!
Instead of letting old neoprene end up in landfill, there are plenty of ways to give your wetsuit a second life.
Rip Curl now offers international drop‑off points where worn‑out wetsuits can be shredded and transformed into playground surfaces, soft‑fall matting, and other useful materials.
Other organisations around the world are upcycling old wetsuits into yoga mats, laptop sleeves, bags, drink cozzies, car seat covers, and more.
You can even get creative at home—cut up your old wetsuit and use the neoprene as padding for roof racks, board protection, or any spot that needs a soft buffer.
If your wetsuit is still in good condition, consider donating it to a second‑hand surf shop, charity, or community organisation so it can find a new owner.
And don’t forget: repairing a wetsuit is almost always cheaper and more sustainable than replacing it. Most tears, broken zips, and seam issues can be fixed by a repair specialist.
