ASI First Aid Certification Overview & Approved Requirements

ASI instructors are required to hold a first aid certificate that equips you to manage common injuries, medical conditions and emergencies until professional help arrives.  

Remote Locations.  If you are working in remote or high-risk environments, areas with extreme weather or limited access to emergency services where medical assistance may be delayed for hours or even days, we recommended you hold an Outdoor or Wilderness First Aid certificate. 

Topics

The first aid training course should include the following: 

  • basic emergency care for injuries and illnesses

  • CPR

  • hypothermia & heat stroke

  • cramp, strain/sprains, fractures, breaks, dislocations

  • breathing emergencies including choking and asthma

  • head & eye injuries

  • bites and stings

  • bleeding

  • shock

  • epilepsy

  • allergies

Formats / Expiry

  • Face to face workshops. (can be a combination of online learning plus face to face workshop).

  • Not expired

  • Not more than than 3 years old (even if expiry date is longer than 3 years)

Not Acceptable

  • On-line only first aid courses not acceptable.

  • “First aid at Work” certificates that do not cover the above topics.

Any instructor working in Australia must have a First Aid certificate issued in Australia.

First aid training is delivered by Registered Training Organisations (RTOs)

The required minimum First Aid certificate is:
Course name: Provide First Aid
Course code: HLTAID011
Valid for 3 years

This course meets Australian safety requirements and covers key local topics such as the DRSABCD action plan, bites and stings, anaphylaxis, asthma, and other common emergencies.
