Meet the Team
Wooden Eye Paddling is owned and operated by Brodie Cambourne, an Accredited Exercise Physiologist, with clinical experience in brain injury, stroke rehabilitation, Parkinson’s Disease, depression, anxiety and PTSD. She is also a Certified Oxygen Advantage Functional Breathing Coach and has been applying the principles of functional breathing to water sports through her competitive paddling adventures over the past 10 years.
Brodie is also a highly accomplished marathon kayak paddler. She has completed some of Australia’s longest endurance events, including winning the South Australian Riverland 200km paddle three years in a row. She has also taken out open female titles in the 404km Murray River Marathon, the Hawkesbury 100km, and the Clarence 100km, reflecting her dedication and strength as an athlete.
She founded Wooden Eye Paddling with a a passion for introducing people to water based activities for both recreation and rehabilitation. And by creating a welcoming, community‑focused environment where people can learn, connect and grow.
Brodie uses Stand Up Paddling as part of her health business and is able to teach all paddlers about the benefits of paddling for postural strength, mental health and functional breathing, whilst also taking paddlers on a tour of her favourite lake.
She has found that SUP activates important brain regions involved in balance, making it a powerful therapeutic activity.
Brodie is supported by qualified ASI SUP instructors, ensuring every session is safe, professional and grounded in best practice.
Services Overview
Wooden Eye Paddling provides group and private SUP lessons, SUP tours, SUP Wise beginner certificates, and team‑building sessions for all ages and abilities. Brodie also integrates SUP into exercise physiology programs for Parkinson’s clients and PTSD clients, using the water to support balance, confidence and emotional wellbeing.
Each session begins with personal goal‑setting and a quick review of participants’ health needs. Brodie encourages discussion about the benefits of nature, water‑based therapy and social connection for brain health, helping paddlers understand how time on the water supports overall wellbeing.
Depending on the location, sessions may also touch on Indigenous history, local wildlife and environmental care, creating an experience that is both enjoyable and educational.
Group sizes are intentionally small — usually four people or fewer — to ensure personalised guidance and a supportive, relaxed atmosphere.
