The Dropping in Rule - Keeping Surfers Safe

Posted: 18 January 2019

HELP

They one major rule in surfing is abiding by the Dropping In rule.  If you do not follow this rule, you will be surfing in a dangerous manner, and will get into trouble by more experienced surfers.

Dropping in relates to who has the right of way to surf a particular wave.  If more than one surfer catches a wave in the same direction, it can ruin the ride for both surfers.  It can also be dangerous as the surfers could collide.

The rule of dropping in states that the surfer who is up and riding inside, closest to the curl, has priority on that wave.

The person who dropped in should immediately get off the wave.

Always abide by the Dropping in Rule.  Share the waves.   Surf safely.

Here are some photos of surfers dropping in….
