This 3 day workshop is an intensive format that allows you to complete most of the written and practical course requirements.

Beach and surf time is maximised to ensure you gain practice with delivery and technical skills.

Your only post workshop training is to complete practical on-the-job experience, provide 1 surfing video/surfing assessment.

Algarve Surf School are providing local support for the ASI Surfing Instructor workshops, providing a wealth of local area knowledge.  

Practical Hours
Algarve Surf School can also provide on-the-job practical experience.  Contact the trainer for more information.

First Aid
Complete your First Aid  training at the same time as your instructor training. 

You need a first aid certificate to obtain your ASI Level 1 surfing instructor certificate, but it can be provided up to 12 months after the instructor training.

Emergency First Response First Aid 
Wed-Thurs. 21-22 July 2021.  (2 days).

Read the course information and requirements before enrolling.  

Within 12 months for attending the workshop, instructors must submit a:
-Senior First Aid certificate

You can submit a surf rescue certificate from organisations such as surf lifesaving.

Your surfing instructor certificate will not be issued until these are received.

After the workshop you will complete practical hours experience.

Closest Bus Station:
Sagres station. From airport take the bus to Lagos and change bus to go to Sagres.

Closest Train Station:   
Lagos station.  No direct train;  From Faro airport, train to Lagos,  then get a bus to Sagres.


Please bring to the workshop: 

  • A fibreglass surfboard to demonstrate intermediate surfing skills
  • A beginner softboard to practice lesson delivery for beginners and practice rescue skills
  • Suitable clothing for surfing  
  • Lunch each day

Beginner softboards can be rented for Euro € 10 per day (for use in workshops only)

Fibreglass boards and wetsuits may also be rented for a small fee.

Sagres is one of Portugal’s most historic towns.

The town is on a headland overlooking a picturesque harbour and surrounded by protected national park.

It is an area of unspoiled beaches and parkland and dramatic cliffs.   Due to its position on a headland, you can see the sun rise over the ocean and also set over the ocean.   The sunrise and sunsets are spectacular.

The town itself is small with many cafes and restaurants and hangout surf shacks.  There is an abundance of surfing locations to choose from.

The area has an average of 300 sunny days per year.
