What This Course Qualifies You To Do
You’ll be able to: coach SUP racing techniques
At:
Inland waterways including rivers, lakes, lagoons, estuaries, canals
Coastal ocean locations with flat water, minimal swell, no breaking waves
No more than 250 metres from shore
After completing the course, you can:
Run high impact race training sessions to improve performance
Measure and track athlete performance
Prepare paddlers for race events

With your ASI SUP Race Coach qualification, you can work:
At SUP schools and outdoor centres
At clubs that offer SUP racing
In tourism and adventure sport programs
As a freelance SUP race coach
At your own SUP School. Apply to become an ASI Accredited SUP School, allowing you to operate professionally under ASI’s global standards.
ASI qualifications are internationally recognised, giving you the freedom to work and travel.
What You'll Learn
This course covers essential skills for coaching SUP racing techniques, including:
Planning - athlete background, goals, outcomes
Performance - factors affecting performance
Assessing performance – technique, fitness, athlete development, race strategy, video analysis
Measuring performance – data collection, methods and tools to collect data, interpretation of data, tracking performance
Performance training methods - physical/fitness, technical/drills/skills, tactical, psychological
Periodised SUP training programs – creating, monitoring, reassessing. Macrocycle, mesocycle, microcycles of 6 to 12 months duration, to build an athlete toward peak performance.
Entry Requirements
To enrol, you must meet:
Minimum age: 18 years
SUP experience: 500+ hours of paddling
Paddle stroke ability: technical (advanced) level, 50 strokes /minute
SUP racing experience: have competed in a range of SUP race events at least regional / national level
Certifications
Hold or completing:
ASI SUP Technical Coach (Enclosed Flat Water)
Course Requirements
Before you can be certified, you’ll need to complete the below:
Project: Prepare a SUP Race Coaching Program
Prepare an individualised race training program, over at least 6 months, for 1 individual.
Submit: pre assessment report & paddle stroke video, periodised training program incorporating at least 3 SUP race events, with evidence of attending and results, the final 6 month progress report and video demonstrating after improved performance.
Plus: Submit Required Certificates
A current ASI SUP water rescue or a surf rescue certificate Acceptable Rescue certificates
A current senior first aid certificate Acceptable First Aid certificates
Time to complete : 12 months

Paddler interested in SUP racing

GPS / heart monitor tools or similar
Video camera or mobile phone to take video
In addition:
Computer or mobile phone to access ASI e-learning platform
