Kirra Point Surf School pride themselves on an open and welcoming approach that makes surfing an inclusive activity for everyone. With sessions for kids from five-years up, kids camps and adults sessions.   Join in the Salty Groms (for kids) or Salty Kooks (for adults) learn to surf programs designed to provide ongoing regular lessons.

James Woods is the owner of Kirra Point Surf School and has been surfing since the age of five. He has surfed at the elite level, representing Australia as a junior and winning two state championships. He started Kirra Point Surf School to inspire his students to begin their own lifelong surfing adventures.

Kirra Point Surf School is owned and operated by James Woods. Taking his first steps in the surf at the age of five, James went on to surf at the elite level. He has twice represented Australia as a junior, was a former two-time Queensland state champion and has travelled the world in search of waves.

James holds ASI Surfing Instructor, surf rescue and first aid qualifications.  He also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and Economics and is also currently studying for his Masters in primary school teaching.

He started the surf school as a natural progression from his past experience.  The beach and surfing have been a part of James’s life for as long as he can remember. He spent four years in France working as a surf instructor before returning to Australia and coaching with surf school on the Gold Coast.

Kirra Point Surf School offers  group and private surfing lessons, Surf Wise beginner to advanced surfing certificate courses, team building, surfing awareness for kids, adults, parties, school groups, parties, hens and stag parties and corporates. 

Join in the Salty Groms or Salty Kooks learn to surf programs.  Specially developed by Kirra Point surf School to provide regular ongoing lessons for those that want to enjoy a weekly surf or otherwise take their surfing to the next level!  Programs available for adults, kids and kids holiday programs.

The surf school pride themselves on being a school for everyone and can cater to lessons for kids from five years up.

The footpath walk, from Kirra to Duranbah headland, is a beautiful thirty to forty-five minute stroll with many cafes and restaurants to choose from along the way.
