HELP

UK.  TYNEMOUTH. In the north east of England you will find some beautiful coastal towns and long sandy beaches backed by dunes and high cliffs and surf.  This is where you will find Yonder, an ASI accredited surf school, that provides surfing activities for girls only.

Tynemouth Longsands is, as its name suggests, is a golden sand beach stretching for miles. Just a stone’s throw from the city of Newcastle yet a world away, Tynemouth has a super chilled surf vibe.

It has developed a national reputation as surf destination, popular with UK surfers and is where the national surf championships take place.

SURF ACTIVITIES WITH YONDER

Yonder offers ladies only one to one surf coaching, private group lessons, regular surfing lessons and fully catered residential surf camps in Tynemouth, Scarborough and Devon.

Yonder is owned and run by Sally McGee, an experienced surfer who spent many years surfing iconic breaks around the world, in the UK, Europe, Indonesia, Central America and California.

Yonder is a way for Sally to share her love for surfing, by providing a safe, supportive setting where women are able to progress and gain confidence in the ocean.
Working with beginners, improvers and intermediate level surfers. Yonder maintains a real focus on quality, keeping the group sizes to a maximum of six to ensure individual advice and to maximise progression.

Their equipment and wetsuits are a very high standard and are used only for lessons and camps, they do not hire out equipment.

While traditionally the UK surf industry has its roots in the South West, there is a thriving and burgeoning surf scene and culture up in the North East.

ASI Surf School Yonder aims to empower women surfing in the North East and UK; to help those who are struggling to find their place in the line-up or to take their first (or next step) towards becoming confident in the sea and really enjoying surfing on whatever board they ride.

BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT

While surf lessons run year-round, the residential surf camps run only during the best swell seasons from April and May and September through until early November. Temperatures are always a degree or two colder than in southern England. But the school makes up for it by using thick wetsuits, boots and gloves and lots and lots of hot tea!

LOCAL TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

Steeped in history Tynemouth has some fascinating historic buildings such as the dramatic Tynemouth Priory and Castle on top of the headland. Centuries old, the site is the burial place of Saints and Kings of the old Kingdom of Northumbria.

Tynemouth village has a strong maritime history with Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade being the first of its kind in the world. The Lord Collingwood monument was built to honour of the local Admiral who took over from Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar.

The area has breath-taking coastal walks and plenty to do including taking a boat ride on the river, visiting parks, the museums or the aquarium. With a wealth of traditional pubs, cafes, local markets and bistro to try once you’ve built up an appetite.
