SLOVENIA.  Experience a SUP holiday in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Where you can paddle along the river through the old city to see the Slovenian Baroque and Art Nouveau architecture and its culinary cafes and restaurants. Or eat at the famous Outdoor Kitchen and see sites such as the medieval fortress above the old town.

Slovenia is in central Europe, surrounded by Austria, Italy, Hungry and Croatia.  Ljubljana is the capital city of Slovenia and located inland on the Ljubljana River, one hour from the Mediterranean coast. 

It’s easy to get to.  Just a 1 hour 45-minute flight from the UK, a 1 hour drive from Trieste in Italy and closer from other European cities.

SUP Activities
ASI Accredited SUP School, SUP Klub, is located in Ljubljana and offers a range of SUP activities and tours. 

SUP Paddle Experience:  At the SUP Klub paddle centre at Livada 31, Ljubljana, the Ljubljana river’s bank, only 15 minutes paddling/walking from the city.   The calm waters are perfect for practising SUP skills and paddling along the river in a quiet location.   2 hours. 

SUP Tour:   Take a guided SUP tour along the river to the old city and to the famous Outdoor Kitchen. Tie up the SUPs and have some lunch or snacks, enjoy the atmosphere and paddle back to the base.  2- 3-hours.

SUP Rentals:   Want to do more paddling? SUP Rentals are available at the SUP Klub Centre, for paddling at the centre location and away from the city. 

SUP Family Activities:
The whole family can join in at SUP Klub. For children aged 7-8 years old they can take a SUP out independently, or for younger children SUP Klub provide floatation devices so that they can sit on parents or the instructors board.  

What’s included: 
All instruction and safety briefings plus SUP board, paddle, leash, wetsuit or rash shirt.

Facilities at the SUP Klub:
The school has a changing area, toilet, lockers, a phone charging station, parking and SUP rental.  Cafes and bars are next door. 

Getting There 
Fly into Ljubljana international airport. Take a 25-minute taxi ride to the old city which costs 25 Euros.
Fly to Trieste, Friuli Venezia Giulia Airport. A 1-hour drive to Ljubljana. 
Venice, Italy is only a 2-hours’ drive away.
If you book with SUP Klub they can also organise your transfers to and from the airport.

Where to Stay 
City Hotel Ljubljana is located only 5 minutes’ walk from the old city. It costs 100 Euros per night for a room for 2 people.

Where to Eat 
The Klub have a special arrangement with the Lounge Bar next door where you can SUP in and SUP out to get drinks and food without getting off your board! (Alcoholic drinks are not recommended).

From Spring to Autumn each Friday, you can visit food festival from the water at the Outdoor Kitchen. It offers an array of culinary delights to taste. 

There are so many places to eat in the capital, SUP Klub is very happy to recommend any restaurants depending on your tastes.

Best Time of Year to Visit
From May to late September the weather and water is warm and the best time to visit. Winter temperatures in contrast, can get down to minus 20. 

It’s recommended you stay for a minimum of three days to one week.  SUP Klub can provide a full travel plan from car rental, accommodation, places to eat and places to visit by SUP.  

Cycling is also a great way to get around, the town is flat and car free plus there are designated bike trails to and see the sites.

Local Tourist Attractions 

The old city has been restored so you will see beautiful baroque architecture all around and its traffic free.   There are the famous Thee Bridges across the river and there is an abundance of outdoor cafes and bars serving all types of cuisine in the square and along the river.   The area is a hive of activity, people walking, relaxing, eating, socialising, café culture and musical performances. 

On the hill just above the village square is the medieval castle which local myth says is protected by a dragon! 

The Outdoor Kitchen is a large food market, also at the village square.  It has an abundance of stalls cooking and serving all types of healthy and interesting Slovenian foods, as well as healthy drinks stands, champagne stands, ice cream and desert stands and more.
