The ASI SUP Tour Guide course will take place along the Atlantic coastline of north-west Cornwall, in the Carbis Bay/St Ives area.  

This course will give you the opportunity to get on the water and experience what a true SUP adventure is.  It includes an extended paddle with an overnight stay. 

The first day will be practical covering both theory and paddling on the water to your overnight location. The next day will be a return to the training venue to put together everything you have learned and give you the opportunity to apply this to your very own guided SUP tour. 


SCHEDULE 

Day 1 – Monday, 2 October 2023
9am to 4pm: on water paddling to accommodation 
6pm: group meet up and dinner 

Day 2 – Tuesday, 3 October 2023
8am to 9am: breakfast at accommodation 
9am to 5pm:  on water and classroom 


OVERNIGHT ACCOMMODATION
Overnight accommodation is included in the course fee.  
For this course, you will be staying in B&B or hotel or Holiday Park accommodation, with your own private room.

FOOD
Breakfast is included on day two. 
Lunch and dinner costs are your responsibility.
Lunch various options  eg purchase from cafe/restaurants or bring yourself.
Dinner will be organised at / near the accommodation.

PERSONAL EFFECTS
Some personal effects will be carried on your board.
And some will be transported by support vehicle.  

HOSTING
Ocean Sports Centre are providing local support for the ASI training, providing a wealth of local area knowledge.

Pre-requisite: 
Experienced paddler in ocean locations, able to negotiate swell of 2ft.    
Hold ASI Level 2 SUP Instructor (Exposed Waters) certificate or equivalent.

Glenn Eldridge  Biography

Glen is highly experience waterman and sports athlete with a wealth of touring experience on SUP and other watercraft.  
Among other events, he created the Celtic Crossing, paddling from the Isles of Scilly to Sennen, UK. - 52 km of open ocean.  The distance is not only long but the navigation is difficult.  

This course includes overnight accommodation on 1 October 2023. 

Accommodation type for this course is:  hotel or holiday park. In your own private room.

Newquay.  (Approx. 38 miles, 50 minute drive to training venue)
Taxi's and car rentals available at airport.

Closest train station: 
Carbis Bay Railway Station.  Next to the training venue at Carbis Bay hotel. 5 minute walk.
Hayle – 5 min walk to Hayle training venue 

Closest bus station:  
Carbis Bay, Count House Lane (stop).  10 minute walk
Hayle – 5 min walk to Hayle training venue.

Please bring the following to the training: 

  • SUP Touring board (suitable flat water board) 
  • Paddle
  • Leash 
  • SUP clothing suitable for longer distance paddling.
  • Hydration - camel back or water bottle
  • Energy food and water (whilst paddling) 
  • Personal protection e.g sunscreen 
  • Watch – ideally a GPS watch
  • Clothing and personal possessions for overnight stay.

The training takes place in the Atlantic coastline of north-west Cornwall, in the Carbis Bay/St Ives area - home to stunning scenic coastline.  

Small bays and coves, with white beach sand and azure blue waters are dotted along the coastline.  Some you can only access from the water. 

Small villages and towns, with historic harbours, cute cafes and restaurants and accommodation are also found along the coast. 

There are historic sites to see from the water / or visit, an abundance of wildlife including the playful seals and dolphins and the occasional basking whale can be spotted at times.
