You'll learn essential techniques, including analysis and technique correction, drills and skills, video analysis, creating individualized coaching programs, and how to assess and coach both individuals and groups to enhance their surfing performance.

Entry Requirements
Before starting this course, you will have:
at least 1,500 to 2,000 hours surfing experience at all types of surf breaks (beach, reef, point breaks).
Have surfing skill and knowledge equivalent to ASI Level 9 Advanced Surfer. Able to perform and link advanced level manoeuvres - roundhouse cut-back, floater, snap, vertical re-entry, tube ride, with power and speed, in surf up to 6ft (2 metres), at different types of surf breaks.
minimum 5 years surfing instructor experience
English speaking skills equivalent to IELTS 6
(Generally you have an effective command of the language despite some inaccuracies, inappropriate usage and misunderstandings. You can use and understand fairly complex language, particularly in familiar situations.)(Online courses have translation options).
Pre-requisite Courses
hold ASI Level 2 Surfing Instructor certificate
(ASI Level 1 Surfing Instructor certificates may be accepted based on experience)
(non ASI Level Certificates may be accepted based on experience and surfing ability. Additional course work may be required.)
Study Options
The following study options are available for this course.
Workshop: In person, practical and theory, with the ability to interact with the trainer and the group. Complete most assessments at the workshop and/or gain insights on how to prepare post workshop assessments.
Access to ASI’s e-learning platform is also provided to access training resources and submit assessments. Plus you get a paper copy of instructor manual at workshop.
Duration: 2 days plus post workshop assessments.
Online Learning: Study in your own time with ASI's e-learning platform. Upload video to demonstrate skills.

ASI's e-learning platform provides access to training manuals, videos, reference materials and assessments. Access is available for all the above delivery options.

Course Requirements
At Workshop:
Complete theory and exercises, practice to complete your written project.
Demonstrate ASI Level 9 Advanced Surfer surfing ability.
(Able to perform and link advanced level manoeuvres - roundhouse cut-back, floater, snap, vertical re-entry, tube ride, with power and speed, in surf up to 6ft (2 metres), at different types of surf breaks)
After Workshop:
Submit written project - prepare an individualised coaching program for two different surfers.
Other:
Submit a current ASI Surf Rescue certificate or other surf rescue certificate. Refer to: Acceptable Rescue certificates
Submit a current senior first aid certificate. Refer to: Acceptable First Aid certificates
Submit identification
Note: Surf Rescue and First Aid Certificates can be provided before or after workshop or within 12 months of enrolment.
Time to Complete: You have 12 months from date of workshop to complete all course requirements.

Equipment
The following equipment and clothing is required to complete the training:
Surf clothing
Fibreglass surfboard to demonstrate your own ASI Level 9 advanced surfing skills.
Two surfing students at the high intermediate to low advanced level (for your project).
Computer or mobile phone to access ASI’s elearning platform to view ASI Learn to Surf Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced level online reference manuals. Upload assessments.
Video camera or mobile phone to take video of practical skills of yourself and video of your students for your project.
Certificate Issued

Additional Certificate Issued
ASI also issues education department approved training certificates. These do not expire.

ASI is an Australian Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and also issues the following certificate to students undertaking training in Australia.
