Surf Wise Level 7 Advanced Surfer
Overview
Surf Wise Level 7 identifies surfers who can start to perform some advanced manoeuvres. At this stage, you’re surfing more powerful waves, reading conditions with accuracy, and demonstrating manoeuvres that require timing, technique, and commitment.
These are the skills required to be an ASI Level 2 Surfing Instructor to instruct intermediate surfers.
Aim
Demonstrate ability to control the surfboard and link advanced level surfing manoeuvres – fade, stall, re-entry, and roundhouse cutback at beach and point breaks. Riding fibreglass shortboard in surf up to 6ft.
Locations and Conditions
Beach break, point break
Wave height 3ft to 6ft (1 metre to 2 metres)
Open face peeling waves, peaking left or right

Pre-requisite
Surf Wise Level 6 Intermediate Surfer
Surf Safety
Able to swim 500 metres
And able to swim from surf break back to shore (distance depends on where you are surfing)
Surfing Environment
Predict surf conditions at different surf breaks taking - weather, tide, and land formations into consideration
Identify hazards at surfing at the advanced level
Select a surfing location for the advanced level surfer

Perform different types of take-offs
Use techniques to control the surfboard and set up for maneouvres

Pre-requisite:
Surf Wise Level 6 Intermediate Surfer
Duration:
8 sessions (1-2 hrs each session) + practice
Practice: 220 - 450 hours
