Learn how to stand up paddle and have SUP lessons and tours at The Surf Shack, an ASI accredited SUP school, located at Curracloe Beach in Co Wexford. Only a 1 hour 45 mins hours drive south of Dublin.
Meet the Team
The Surf Shack has been operating since 2013. Opened by a group of stoked friends looking to mix work and fun and make it their job.
Through the years, The Surf Shack has grown, initially delivering surfing lessons and in 2020 stand up paddle activities were added.
The Shack’s team of instructors are homegrown SUP talent—with extensive knowledge of the local waterways.
All are ASI-qualified SUP instructors, holding rescue and first aid certification, ensuring a safe and fun experience on the water.
Service Overview
The Surf Shack offers group and private lessons, SUP Wise learn to SUP certificate courses, SUP tours, team building and rentals for kids, adults, parties, hens and stag parties, school groups and corporates.
Lessons are also taught in Irish, with Irish speaking surf instructors. Everyone is welcome from first timers to fluent speakers.
SUP tours take you along the coast, catering for different levels of paddling ability.
SUP rentals are also available to people with some paddling experience.
Kids summer camps are available in holiday times, offering SUP, surf and other fun activities.
The Surf Shack teaches you the skills to paddle and control the board correctly and safely in the sea. Everything is done in shallow water until you are competent enough to paddle more.
You can also purchase boards and SUP gear from The Surf Shack shop. The store stocks a large range of brands so you can choose the gear that best suits your abilities and requirements.
Location Features
SUP lessons and activities are held at Curracloe Beach and Rosslare Strand.
Situated at the foot of the raven nature reserve, Curracloe Beach is a fun and safe introduction to SUP. It is a beautiful stretch of white sandy beach and offers ideal flat water paddling conditions. You might even see a seal or two!
Rosslare Strand, about 30 mins from Curracloe Beach, is popular beach and also has ideal conditions for paddling when the conditions are flat
Both beaches are Blue Flag beaches, with lifeguards in summer.
Sunsets are often breathtaking. With its wide, uninterrupted stretch of soft sand and open views across the Irish Sea, the beaches offer a perfect canvas for golden hour magic.

Tourist Attractions
Curracloe Beach has featured in the Hollywood movie, Saving Private Ryan. The opening scenes of were filmed on the beach by Hollywood director Stephen Spielberg, with many Wexford locals joining the cast as supporting extras.
The 11km long beach stretches from Raven Point to Ballyconigar near Blackwater and is a stunning stretch of the Irish coastline. There are hilly sand dunes where various plants bloom in spring and summer. A nature trail runs through the dunes offering visitors the opportunity to learn more about the local flora and fauna.
Right next to the beach, this coastal woodland offers scenic walking trails through dunes and forest. Keep an eye out for red squirrels, seals, and migratory birds. There is also a range of different restaurants catering from Traditional Irish fare to international foods.
Rosslare Strand is also a seaside resort known for its long sandy beach, mild climate, and relaxed atmosphere. Often called the “Sunny South-East,” it consistently records more sunshine hours than anywhere else in Ireland. The beach stretches along a southern peninsula with timber breakwaters that help preserve its sandy shoreline.
Local highlights include the Rosslare Sli na Sláinte walking routes, the International Adventure Centre, and nearby Johnstown Castle.
