Learn how to Stand up paddle and have SUP lessons at Float Stand Up Paddle, an ASI accredited SUP school located at Lake Canobolas, Orange, an inland regional outback town that is 255kms (4 hour drive) west from Sydney.
SUP lessons and rentals are held at Lake Canobolas, a man-made dam that now caters for recreational watersports. Set at the base of Mt Canobolas, it is relaxing and scenic place, with smooth calm waters, making it ideal for paddling.
Owned and operated by Simeon Cooke, who has a love of watersports, a local to the area, he has excellent knowledge of the local waterways, and a wealth of local stories to tell.
Float Stand Up Paddle provides sessions for all ages and specialises in family groups. The aim is to get active, enjoy the outdoors and have fun.
The Lake has picnic facilities so you can make a day of it !
The town of Orange is also a hub for food and wine tourism. Whether you are a local or just travelling through town, stand up paddle boarding at Lake Canobolas is a must.
Meet the Team
Float Stand Up Paddle is owned and operated by Simeon Cooke. He has always had a keen interest in watersports and paddle sports. When he first tried stand up paddle boarding, he loved it. He grew up in the local area (around Orange) and has excellent knowledge of the local waterways.
Simeon holds ASI Level 1 SUP Instructor Enclosed flat Water, SUP Rescue and First Aid qualifications. He is also a qualified electrician and holds a Certificate 4 in Workplace Training, and a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate.
Simeon started the SUP school to help other people enjoy paddling boarding. It is a great opportunity for families to have fun together. Getting outside and paddling is a great way for families to connect and have fun together. He likes the sense of community and fun supping brings.
Services Overview
Float Stand Up Paddle offers group and private lessons, SUP Wise learn to SUP certificate courses, team building and rentals for kids, adults, families, parties, hens and stag parties, travellers, school groups, and corporates.
They also have a Mega SUP Board which is loads of fun for the whole family.
The aim is to have fun, says Simeon. SUP sessions can be provided for family groups or you can join in with others. Enjoy getting outside, breath in the fresh air, learn some new skills and get some exercise at the same time.
You can also make a day of it with a picnic lunch on the shores of Lake.
Location Features
SUP lessons and tours are held at Lake Canobolas (only a 10 minute drive from Orange townsite).
It is a man made dam, built in the early 1900’s and supplied water to Orange until 1962. It is now used for recreational purposes.
The Lake has flat water and a grassy sandy entry point, making it very safe for paddling.
Set at the base of Mt Canoboas, it is a very picturesque and scenic place for paddling, swimming and picnicking.
School Features
There are excellent facilities at the Lake. With toilets, showers and parking as well as picnic facilities.

The name of Lake Canoboas is derived from the Aboriginal words coona, meaning shoulder and booloo meaning two. It was used by the Wiradjuri to refer to the twin peaks, now known as Old Man Canobolas and Young Man Canobolas (1)
