Stand Up Paddle Instructors give it heart in Seoul!

Success for the new South Korean ASI SUP Instructors who completed their 4-day intensive SUP Camp held in Gwang-jin Gu in Seoul on 11-14th September 2017.

The camp was conducted on the calm waters of the Han River with its panoramic views of Seoul’s landmarks, such as Han River Park, The Olympic Stadium and Jamsil Bridge.

ASI Trainer, Craig Fisher flew in from Australia to deliver the training in SUP Wise, SUP Water Rescue, level 1 and level 2. Craig is a highly experienced SUP school operator and trainer, swim coach and lifesaving trainer and competitor. He said: “The conditions were hot with light cross shore winds at the Han River. All the instructors did a brilliant job of getting through the training and assessments. Very happy with all of them.”

The participants, said: “I found the video analysis very effective and useful for not only correcting my own technique but others too. Very detailed, educational and enjoyable course”.” The whole workshop and instruction were very well structured and organised.”

The SUP Wise for Instructors Foundation covered ASI methodology for correct paddle technique and all competencies for enclosed flat-water locations.

The SUP Water Rescue (half day) covered key rescue techniques specifically for SUP Instructors or anyone who paddles regularly on the water.

The Level 1 SUP Instructor (Enclosed Flat Water) course covered essential instruction skills for inland flat waters, lesson structure, planning, managing groups of clients safely, rules and regulations, SUP School operations and suitable equipment, video assessment, technical analysis of SUP paddling technique to identify areas of incorrect technique.

The crew headed to the west coast to the ocean to Jookdo beach in Yangyang, Gangwon province, to complete their exposed waters training for level 2. It was about 2-hour drive, through mountain tunnels and  very scenic.

The Level 2 SUP Instructor (Exposed waters) course covered instructing and guiding sup activities specifically at coastal locations or large bodies of water over 1 Km wide with swell up to 2ft. These locations have different instruction, paddling techniques and safety standards.

Seoul is the capital and largest metropolis of the Republic of Korea. Discovering Seoul on the Han River gives a great SUP experience to enjoy this beautiful city from another perspective.

Thanks to Surf Ocean for hosting the workshops.

Workshops are held throughout Asia in Singapore and Hong Kong in October 2017.
