Renewals

ASI Instructors renew their Surfing Instructor qualifications each year. 


The process: 

  • Login in to your member area on the ASI website www.academyofsurfing.com/login
  • Complete the online renewal form and payment
  • Provide current copies of surf rescue and first aid certificates
  • Provide details of where you have worked as a surfing instructor 


Renewal date:  
30 June.  (or 31 December for Australia & Asia)


Fee:  
AUD $55     
Currency:  Australian Dollars.    Currency Converter  


Includes:

  • Issue of new instructor certificate valid for 12 months (from the date of your last expiry date)
  • ASI Membership
  • Multiple ASI instructor qualifications (e.g. surfing, stand up paddle, bodyboarding)


Refund Policy:
No refund is provided once renewal form has been submitted and processed.
 


Expired Certificates

(a) Certificate expired by due date

An additional fee of AUD $55 is payable

  • Issue of new instructor certificate valid for 12 months (from the date of your last expiry date)
  • ASI membership
  • Multiple ASI instructor qualifications (e.g. surfing, stand up paddle, bodyboarding)


(b) Certificate expired by more than 12 months
You need to complete the training again
'Update learning" option is available if you can’t attend a workshop
Exemptions may apply.  Email ASI head office with your request
 


Renewal Process

1.  Login to your member account on the ASI Website at:  www.academyofsurfing.com/login


2. Choose Renewal
Complete the online renewal form and payment.  Update your contact details as applicable.


3.  Surf Rescue Certificate
On the online renewal form, upload a current copy of your surf rescue certificate.

  • Surf Rescue certificate to be current (not expired) or no more than 24 months old from date of issue. (no more than 12 months old from date of issue for Australia).   
  • ASI accepts rescue certificates from a range of training providers  See: surf rescue training providers....


4.  Senior First Aid Certificate
On the online renewal form, upload a current copy of your senior first aid certificate.

  • Senior First Aid certificate to be current (not expired) or no more than 36 months old from date of issue.
  • Surf Rescue Life Saving certificates that contain senior first aid as part of the certificate are acceptable (e.g. UK Surf Lifesaving GB)
  • The first aid training should cover basic emergency care for injuries and illnesses, including: CPR, cramp, hypothermia, heat stroke, strain/sprains, fractures, breaks and dislocations, breathing emergencies including choking and asthma, head injuries, eye injuries, bites and stings, bleeding, shock, epilepsy, allergies.  
  • ASI accepts first aid certificates from a range of training providers  See: first aid training providers....

 

5. Work Experience
On the online renewal form, provide information on where you have worked as a surfing instructor:

  • The name of the surf school/s that employed you or the name of the surf club where you provided volunteer coaching 
  • The locations, dates and the number of hours 
  • Must have been completed in the previous 12 months


Minimum work experience requirements are: 

  • Level 1 Surfing Instructor:   25 hours Instruction for beginner surfing sessions
  • Level 2 Surfing Instructor**:   25 hours instruction for intermediate surfing sessions
  • Level 3 Surfing Coach:   25 hours coaching advanced level surfing sessions
  • Level 4 Master Surfing Coach:  Coaching elite-advanced level surfing sessions plus provide information that you have conducted competition coaching skills, for at least 2 persons, to a minimum regional level, over the previous two year period.
     

** Note:  Level 3 Surfing Coach was previously called Level 2 Surfing Coach.  If you completed your Level 2 Surfing Coach training prior to 1 January 2018, you will automatically be transferred to the Level 3 Surfing Coach.
