Happy Days Surf School is owned and run by Jose Moutinho. He’s been bodyboarding since he was 10 and surfing since he was 16. He is an elite level surfer who has surfed all kinds of waves all over the world from Indonesia to Morocco, Peru, Argentina and all across Europe. 

A highly experienced instructor he worked in Portugal for many years and has managed and owned surf schools since 2013. 
Jose started Happy Days as he wanted to provide a more local focus for kids in the area. He says: “Everyone should enjoy and share the stoke of surfing. It’s great to be part of everyone’s surf journey. At Happy Days, it is our passion and what we love to do.

The locals who come to Jose for lessons or surf programmes leave feeling like they have had an unforgettable experience. According to Jose: “They gain surfing awareness and knowledge to get them to the next stage.  Most will have had a blast and leave grinning and happy. He is assisted in the surf school by experienced ASI accredited surf instructors, holding rescue and first aid qualifications. 

Happy Days Surf School offers group lessons and private personalised sessions, surfing certificate courses, surfing guide trips, team building, surfing awareness for kids, adults, parties, school groups and corporates. 

They specialise in offering Ocean Warriors, a kids surf programme developed by Jose as well as a ladies learn to surf programme.

The school also offers individuals or groups the option of creating their own programmes and will tailor lessons to suit your needs.

Jose also offers surf / skate training and video analysis.

Surf lessons take place at Woonona Beach. It offers a variety of waves for all levels. With the right instruction students can learn to surf technical waves and be guided through them by their instructors.

Woonona beach is a 2km long beach between Woonona and Bellambi. The beach is backed by apartments, cafes, a grassy area and the local SLSC. 

On the headland is a large ocean pool, Woonona Rock Pool, which provides safe swimming.
