Learn how to stand up paddle and have SUP lessons at Yu on Blue, an ASI accredited learn to stand up paddle school, located in Bicton, Perth, approx. 20 mins south from the city centre.
Yu on Blu is owned and run by Sally Simpson. She has lived in the Bicton area most of her life. Sally is actively involved in a range of water sports and is an experienced swimmer, having previously competing in the Cottesloe to Rottnest swim event and stand up stand up paddle flat water races.
Sally is an ASI level 2 Stand Up Paddle Instructor, holding water rescue and first aid qualifications. She also holds a Diploma in Catering and Hotel Management.
Sally set up the stand up paddle school due to demand. Sally and husband, Lach, started a family SUP board company designing and manufacturing stand up paddleboards and all accompanying accessories called "YOB Australia" Yu on Blue Australia in 2010.
They found themselves doing lots of demonstrations when customers purchased a SUP board, so they decided to also offer lessons and teach people how to have fun on the boards and do it safely.
Yu on Blu offers private and group beginner lessons and tours in flat water and exposed water locations for family groups, kids, adults, the more mature, parties, school groups and corporate groups as well as team building sessions.
Women’s only classes are held for anyone between 25 to 65 or older.
If you want to go the next step and get your own SUP board and accessories. Yu on Blu can provide advice on a board for your ability, weight and height. They have a shop which has an extensive range of YOB boards suitable for all types of paddling.
Lessons include important water safety etiquette information. Many beginner suppa’s are new to water sports, in general, and we provide valued SUP information to help prevent any on water tension along their way and get you paddling safely and with skill.
SUP sessions are held on the beautiful Swan River at Bicton. It is a great, fun paddle on the river and most days you see swans, pelicans, fish, and dolphins, beautiful native bushland and limestone cliffs.
There is also a lot of indigenous heritage and history in Bicton, and Sally has plenty of stories to share about the local area.
The preferred launching location is very close to Sally’s home. Often after lessons, the class heads back to her home for a swim, water and even a cuppa.
You’ll learn to paddle safely and correctly, have good laugh or two along the way and maybe even get involved in some story telling !
