Learn how to stand up paddle and have stand up paddle lessons at Playa Negra SUP Wave Riders, an ASI accredited stand up paddle school, located at Playa Negra, Guanacaste Province, Costa Rica, only 70 minutes from Liberia airport.

Costa Rica has stunning flat water locations, beaches, pristine, warm waters, abundant wildlife and welcoming locals.

Playa Negra SUP Wave Riders, is owned and operated by Kevin Moorhead.  He has lived by the ocean for numerous years and has been paddling since 2008. He has coached Hockey in Canada after many years of playing at a high level.  He has also coached beginner & intermediate skiers in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.   He holds ASI SUP Instructor accreditation for Level 1 Enclosed Flat Waters, Level 2 Exposed Waters and Level 3 SUP Beginner Surf, first aid and rescue qualifications as well as management and financial planning qualifications

Kevin started the SUP school because he loves supping, being near the water and enjoys working with people and sharing the excitement when they are learning or trying something new.   

Playa Negra SUP Wave Riders offers group and private SUP lessons, certificate courses, SUP guided tours for children, adults, parties, school groups, backpackers, universities and corporates.  SUP tours are available in the flat water estuary.  Lessons are available for flat water, exposed/open water and beginner surf.   Accommodation packages can also be organised.  

The school also provides school sports activities for kids that combined SUP lessons, wildlife and environmental awareness studies.   

The location offers are some incredible locations for paddling.  There are 2 estuaries with calm flat waters complete with mangroves and plenty of wildlife to be seen.  

There are multiple open water / exposed waters locations where you can enjoy viewing  the many different ocean animals such as whales, rays, turtles and many types of fish. Then for the SUP surfers, there is beach, point and reef breaks, all within close proximity.

Kevin and his growing team of experienced instructors have a wealth of experience, knowledge and patience as well as top notch equipment.   You can try a SUP tour, take a SUP lesson or progress your SUP skills from flat water to beginner surf.   As well as experiencing the friendliness and diversity of the Costa Rican culture.
