One of the leading UK supermarkets has pledged to reduce their plastic use by 50%

UK. One of the leading UK supermarkets has pledged to reduce their plastic use by 50%. Another step in the fight against plastic pollution.

Greenpeace who is one of the leaders for change wrote 'Sainsbury’s have announced they’ll be reducing their plastic in milk bottles, fruit and veg, and many more products. This could have a huge knock-on effect for other supermarkets. It’s time for them to follow Sainsbury’s lead. Plastic is a huge global issue and every business should be doing their bit to reduce their impact. Supermarkets in the UK use a massive 800,000 tonnes of plastic packaging a year and while some are trying to reduce their impact - none are doing enough. Last year, we made a league table of supermarket plastics and Sainsbury’s was bottom [2]. We asked you what you thought of that - and you weren’t happy. Your voice has been key to us achieving this massive victory.'

ASI signed the Greenpeace petition to UK Supermarkets and you can do so too here:
