Rips are dangerous but with a bit a knowledge, and staying calm, you can safely negotiate and get out of rips.
In Australia, this summer (since 1 Dec 20), there has been a 30 per cent rise in the number of people drowning. As of the end of last week, 70 people had drowned, including three men who were rock fishing on Hill 60 near Port Kembla and 21 who drowned swimming in lakes and rivers.
Last week British gym manager, Jake Jacobs, 32, and his friend Julia Boika, 29, tragically drowned at Broadbeach in Queensland are the latest causalities.
