Course Information


Overview:

This course is for people wanting to be ASI SUP Instructors.   NOTE: this course is now only applicable for Sept and October 2021 workshops in the UK & USA.  Contact ASI is you are interested in enrolling in these workshops. (after that time it will be replaced with SUP Wise Intensiv)

It provides the essential underpinning paddling knowledge and skills required for the ASI Level 1 SUP Instructor course. 

Enrol in this course at the same time as enrolling for the ASI Level 1 SUP Instructor course.     
Choose combined SUP course option (eg. Level 1 SUP, Rescue and SUP Wise). 

 


Aim:

Become familiar with ASI guidelines and terminology, apply paddling technique according to the ASI methodology, equipment, environment and safety protocols.


Locations:

Applies to inland waterways and bodies of water including creeks, rivers, lakes, lagoons, estuaries, canals:

  • no wider than 1 km (0.6 miles)
  • with no swell or breaking waves
  • wind speed less than 12 knots
  • no more than 250 metres from shore

    • Paddling on knees
    • Enter and exit the water correctly
    • How to stop, safe falling and dismount
    • Getting back on board techniques
    • Turning - back paddling, sweep stroke, pivot turn
    • SUP etiquette

Entry Requirements:

​Swim 50 metres (164 ft)


Delivery Options:

Each of the below delivery options can be completed at the same time as completing your SUP instructor courses.   

Workshop:
Attend practical session (group session)   3 hours
Complete online multichoice tests at any time.

Flexible Trainer: 
Combines online learning with short private practical session at a time that suits you and the trainer. 
Complete online multi choice tests first
Attend the practical session (private session):  1 hour. 

Online:
Complete online multichoice tests at any time.
Practical: submit own video (10-15 mins only) demonstrating ability to perform: enter and exit water, paddle with 5 phases, falling off, getting back on, paddling on knees, turning strokes.


Course Requirements:

There are 2 course components: 

1. Theory
Utilising the ASI e-learning platform with online training manual.  Complete multi-choice quizzes.

2. Practical
On water. Participation only. Discussion and feedback.  No formal assessment.

Time to Complete 
You have 12 months to complete all course requirements.

Equipment:

The following is required to complete the training:

  • Flat water stand up paddle board, paddle, coiled leash
  • SUP clothing suitable for paddling
  • Computer or mobile phone to access ASI e-learning platform

SUP Wise Enclosed Flat Water Foundations Skills certificate
