Onsite parking available right outside of the Surf Shop.  Cost approximately £5 per day.

This 2 day workshop is an intensive format that allows you to complete most of the written and practical course requirements.  Beach and surf time is maximised to ensure you gain practice with delivery and technical skills.

Discovery Surf School are providing local support for the ASI Surfing Instructor workshops, providing a wealth of local area knowledge.  

Practical Hours
Discovery Surf School can also provide on-the-job practical hours experience.

Important Information

Read the course information and requirements before enrolling.

Within 12 months for attending the workshop, instructors must submit a:
-Surf Rescue Certificate  
-Senior First Aid certificate

Or provide a combined beach lifeguard or surf coach rescue qualification.

You can obtain a surf rescue certificate from organisations such as surf lifesaving. 
Your surfing instructor certificate will not be issued until these are received.

After the workshop you will complete practical hours experience.

Surf Rescue and First Aid Courses 

Complete your surf rescue and first aid qualifications at the same time.

SLSGB Surf Coach Safety Rescue course (3 days)- combined first aid and rescue
SLSGB Lifeguard Course (5 days)  - combined first aid and rescue

By Car: 
Follow the M4/M5 to Exeter and then the A38 signed Torquay/Plymouth. Follow the A38 until signs for A3121 for Ermington and Modbury.
At Ermington take the A379 towards Modbury and Kingsbridge. Take right signed B3392 towards St. Anns Chapel and Challaborough.
At St. Anns Chapel turn sharp right at the Old Chapel Inn towards Challaborough Bay. Follow the signs all the way to the sea front.

  • Fibreglass surfboard to demonstrate surfing skills
  • Surf clothing

If you are travelling and don’t have your surfboard or surf gear, you can hire it from Discovery Surf School

Challaborough is a village and popular surfing beach on the south coast of Devon, England. The village is in the parish of Ringmore, though the eastern part of the small bay and beach lies in Bigbury parish.

The beach is popular with surfers was it has excellent surf.

Accommodation is available right on the surf break.
