Aim

Demonstrate ability to control the board and use the paddle to perform and link intermediate level SUP manoeuvres.

Conditions

• Waves 3ft in height (1 metre)
• Wind speed less than 12.5 knots.   Offshore winds up to 10 knots.  
• Free from hazards.

Prerequisite

• ASI Level 3 Stand Up Paddle (Beginner Surf) skill and knowledge

Outcomes

• Identify SUP hazards
• Choose a safe SUP location
• Identify safe places to enter and exit the surf
• Negotiate waves
• Correct paddling technique and stance
• Catch and ride waves demonstrating correct use of paddle to perform and link intermediate level SUP manoeuvres
• Demonstrate correct wipe-out and mount/dismount
• Demonstrate correct SUP etiquette
• Choose suitable board, equipment and clothing for the intermediate level

• Fade
• Stall
• Dishpan
• Tail slide
• Bottom turn
• Top turn
• Cutbank 
• Perform manoeuvres on backhand and forehand
