ASI SUP Instructor Course Pathways
ASI Instructors are trained to the highest standard in the world. They are experienced suppers who are interested in the sport of supping and passing that stoke and knowledge onto others.
ASI Instructors are trained in:
- Teaching /assessment: instructional methods for outdoors and water environs
- Safety: client safety management as well as holding water rescue and first aid qualifications
- Environment: care for the environment and seek to minimise social and natural impact on shores and beaches
- Professional development: annual renewal ensures ASI instructors skills and knowledge are up-to-date and current.

Level 1 SUP Instructor (Enclosed Flat Water)
Instruct on inland waterways and bodies of water including creeks, rivers, lakes, lagoons, estuaries, canals that are no wider than 1 km, with no swell or breaking waves.

Level 2 SUP Instructor (Exposed Waters)
Instruct on protected coastal beaches and bays and harbours with swell size up to 2ft, no breaking waves, shore break no more than 1½ feet.

Level 3 SUP Instructor (Downwind)
Instruct on how to paddle effectively and safely, for a distance of 10 km, in fresh to strong downwind situations and following seas, (waters) on coastal or inland bodies of water.

Coach advanced water racing, competition skills and knowledge.

SPECIALITY STREAM - SUP SURFING
Instructors are required to hold Level 1 SUP Instructor (Enclosed Flat Water) and Level 2 SUP Instructor (Exposed Waters) before enrolling into SUP surfing specialisation instructor courses.


Level 4 SUP Instructor (Intermediate Surf)
Instruct in surf up to 3 feet (1 metre).

Level 5 SUP Instructor (Advanced Surf)
Instruct in surf up to 6 feet (2 metres).

Level 6 Master SUP Coach (SUP Surfing)
Coach SUP surfing competition skills and knowledge.
