Thailand is a best kept secret for surfing. There are perfect beginner waves to learn and practice on.

One More Wave Kata Beach has been operating since 2015. The managing director went to Thailand in 2013 to relax by the ocean and enjoy beautiful sunsets. A friend, who was a good surfer, suggested setting up a surf school. They just started renting boards. But many people had not tried surfing and couldn’t do it and started asking about having lessons.

It was decided that the instructors would be properly trained by ASI and that is how One More Wave Kata Beach came to be an ASI accredited surf school.

Instructors are all local Phuket people. They have grown up by the sea and worked with life guards for several years and are experienced surfers with at least 3-4 years surfing experience and intermediate level surfing abilities.

The surf school offers group and private surfing lessons, tours and rentals for all ages for kids, adults, parties, school groups, parties, travellers and corporates. 

Lesson are held in Chinese, Thai and English.

One More Wave Kata Beach also has surf hostel accommodation right near the beach, and offers surf and stay packages.  

Surf lessons are held at Kata Beach. It is a stunning 1.5 km stretch of soft white sand and turquoise water.

Although Phuket is not a famous place for surfing, Kata Beach is a good place for beginners to learn and practice.  The beach break is very safe with small waves, a soft sandy bottom, no marine creature hazards and its free from rocks and rips. 

The surfing season is May to November, as this is the only time there are waves.  It is the low season, so accommodation and everything is very cheap.
