Phil Mercer is the owner of WA Surf. Hes been on the water since he was 10 years old and has competed to World Champion level in windsurfing. Phil is a qualified instructor in surfing, kite-surfing and windsurfing - one of the few people in the world to hold all 3 instructor qualifications. In addition he holds surf rescue, senior first aid and advanced resuscitation qualifications.
Phil started WA Surf in 2002 in response to his passion for teaching surfing sports. He wanted to offer a range of surfing activities to suit the prevailing conditions as well as providing high quality instruction and techniques that make it easy for students to learn. WA Surf was also one of the first organisations to run extended surfing tours in WA - taking students to pristine, natural untapped conditions outside the Perth metropolitan area on 2 to 5 day surf camps.
As well as being an ASI accredited surf school, WA Surf is also:- a Yachting Australia Windsurfing and Instructor Training Centre, International Kitesurfing Organisation (IKO) Kite School, WA Department of Environment and Conservation Tour Operator as well as being approved by the Australian Sports Commission to deliver their Active After Schools Community (AASC) programs.
The WA Surf team of instructors are all qualified in surfing, kite-surfing or windsurfing as well as holding surf rescue, advanced resuscitation and senior first aid qualifications. They have in-depth technical knowledge of equipment and dynamics allowing students to gain a real appreciation of surf sports.
As the original Perth surf/wind sports company, WA Surf hold operating licences at the best locations in and around Perth. Kitesurfing and Windsurfing is conducted at Safety Bay just 40 km South of Perth and also on the Swan River close to the city. Learn to Surf day trips and tours are from Perth to their camps at Lancelin and Wedge Island, some 100km North of Perth. they can offer everything from private lessons to corporate events in each of these sports.
