Learn how to surf and have surfing lessons at Evans Head Surf School, an ASI accredited surf school, located at Evans Head, 75 km (1.5 hours) south of Byron Bay.

Evans Head is a picturesque town set on the magnificent Evans River with amazing white stretches of beach, surrounded by national parks. Whales and dolphins are often seen and kangeroos and other bird and wildlife are bountiful.

Evans Head Surf School is owned and managed by John Plenkovitch. He’s been surfing for more than 30 years and is an elite advanced surfer having surfed around Australia, Asia, Europe and Africa.

John was born and grew up in Evans Head and has extensive knowledge of the local breaks. He is a Level 2 accredited surfing coach holds his surf rescue, senior first aid and advanced resuscitation qualifications, has worked for surf schools providing lessons for beginner to advanced level, as a surf guide on yacht charters and surfing tour companies taking people for extended surfing trips in remote surf locations in Australia. He’s also an accomplished kayak guide.

Evans Head Surf School provides the complete surfing experience. Stay at the Surf Shack right near the beach, learn the fast track techniques to get your up and surfing, how to choose surf locations, more about waves and equipment which is all part of the surf culture. You'll also travel to different secret surf spots along the coast so you get the best conditions on the day.

Evans Head Surf School offers group and private surfing lessons for beginner to advanced levels, surfing guide trips, surfing awareness, for kids, adults, parties, girls only, school groups and corporates.

Surfing packages are available with a whole range of options - visit a surfboard factory, walks in the nature parks, kayaking on the river, yoga and pampering - all designed to combine your surfing experience with the natural beauty of the area. And for something different, John offers tandem surfing.

Transport to and from Byron Bay is provided. If you are on public bus transport, phone in advance and we'll pick you up from the highway.

Accommodation in the "Surf Shack" is available as well as live-in surf camps for 2 to 5 days or longer.
