HELP

Ever thought about combining your love of surfing with some choreographed dance moves? That’s just what ASI Surfing Coach, Kristy Quirk from Australia did when she took her love of dance on to the surfboard and voila! Surfdancer was born. The ASI accredited surf school is located at Noosa, Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia.

Kristy, an accomplished surfer has represented Queensland while competing in both shortboard and longboard surf competitions. She is also a qualified dance instructor and has been coaching dance for over 20 years.  Her passion for surfing and dancing gave her the idea to combine them to create surf dancing.

Kristy says: “I just loved doing both and realised wave riding gave me the opportunity to practise some dance moves and it felt amazing.  Combining surfing with dance is a new, creative, way to inspire joy and wellbeing. At Surfdancer we teach everything you would learn in a regular surf lesson, through the mediums of song and dance. Its not only fun, it’s great to improve balance too!”

Surf dancer offer different techniques to make the most of student’s movement through a fusion of dance moves and styles. The school are also now offering the world’s first Surf, Dance and Sing classes too.

The benefits of surfing with dance are numerous. It improves spatial awareness, strength, flexibility and encourages a full range of body movements on the surfboard.  Kirsty’s classes incorporate elements from yoga, dance, percussion, song and also synchronised surfing. She adds: “We focus on finding your rhythm and flow for more progressive, modern surfing.”

Kristy's years of coaching dance and surfing, with people of all ages and especially children, has helped her develop learning techniques that are not only creative but make it easy to learn in a relaxed and friendly way.

A parent of one of Surfdancing’s students said: "Surf dancing with Kristy is amazing. The kids all loved it and they keep busy thinking up new moves to do on the surfboard." Marcy Jones, Noosa.

Noosa is a popular destination, with a vibrant surf scene, beautiful surf locations, national parks and a great café society.  With a range of surf locations for beginners to advanced levels.  Try something new to improve your surfing skills or just learn a new an innovative sport combining surfing with dance with Kristy and her team at Surfdancer.
