Congratulations Lucy Darragh - NSW U12's Surfing Champion

AUSTRALIA. Congratulations to  Lucy Darragh, from Gerringong, who has been working with ASI accredited school Pines Surfing Academy and coached by Vaya Phrachanh, (ASI Level 4 Master Surfing Coach) for the past 2 years and did what was needed to claim her first state title.

The 2020 Havaianas NSW Grommet State Titles was held in an exciting action small-but-punchy conditions at Maroubra Beach, Sydney Australia. 

The Under-12 Girls saw a relatively low-scoring affair between all four finalists as they all endeavoured to clench themselves an NSW state title. Lucy was able to gain the upper hand in the final thanks to a respectable 7.47 two-wave heat total which was enough to give herself some distance between her and her fellow competitors.

Lucy overcame her nervous and learned from her mistakes the previous year where she placed 3rd in the same age division. 

Being the number 1 seed, she had some pressure put on her but stayed focus and did not drop a heat.

Being only 10, Lucy has another year in the Under 12’s. There is talk of her skipping the division as focusing on the Under 14’s next year where her goal is to make the Australian Titles (the nation Titles starts from Under 14’s up).

This will give Lucy an extra year’s experience and learn from the older girls.

The future is looking bright for this talented surfer.
