Learn to Surf - Advanced Level

 

Once you have completed your intermediate level, you are now ready to learn a whole range of manoeuvres.

The advanced surfing program is split into three levels. Each level is defined by the manoeuvres you can perform.

To be recognised as an advanced surfer, you will need to complete all levels.

Advanced Surfing Program

Aim

  • Perform a range of maneouvres in 3 feet (1 metre) plus surf at different surf breaks.

Conditions
  • Wave height above 3 ft (1 metre), unbroken waves, including choppy/rough conditions. Short or long board

Pre-requisite

Level 7
  • Source, read and interpret a variety of meteorological data

  • Predict surf conditions at different surf breaks taking meteorological data - weather, tide, and land formation into consideration

  • Select a surfing location for the advanced surfer

  • Methods to enter and exit water

  • Identify fitness techniques for the advanced surfer

  • Describe surf safety issues for the advanced surfer

  • Surfing Manoeuvres

  • Stall

  • Roundhouse cut-back (forehand & backhand)

  • Snap (forehand & backhand)

  • Linking manoeuvres

Level 8
  • Design two surfboards that would suit your own surfing style and prevailing surf conditions

  • Identify and repair minor surfboard damage

  • Surfing safety and assistance clothing

  • Surfing Manoeuvres

  • Vertical re-entry (forehand & backhand)

  • Floater (fore-hand & backhand)

  • Linking manoeuvres

Level 9
  • Plan surfing trips

  • Experience surfing at a beach break

  • Experience surfing at a reef break

  • Experience surfing at a point break

  • Experience surfing at a river mouth

    Surfing Manoeuvres

  • Late take-off

  • Backdoor tube

  • Pigdog

  • Tube

  • Layback

  • Linking all manoeuvres to ensure speed, control and correct use of wave
